Afrika by Dennis Swiatkowski

"Afrika" is the title of a work inspired by the landscapes and nature of South Africa. The reason I've spelled it with a 'k' instead of a 'c' is that it takes us to a different world. It could have been written in any other language, but Afrika is still recognisable enough for those living in Europe and the West in general. This picture is part of a traveling exposition.

Stars of Namakwa by Dennis Swiatkowski

Stars of Namakwa was shot in the northern part (Namakwa) of South Africa. We stayed overnight in Sutherland a town close to the SALT - Space Observatory and the skies were very inviting for some stargazing. I decided to set up in the middle of the night and take a couple of star shots. This one being my absolute favourite. It's part of a traveling exposition.

Candice by Dennis Swiatkowski

Candice and I shot a nice little series on 35mm film of which some have been featured in an all encompassing "Images of Afrika" expo. Which is a surreal exposition in the sense that it doesn't feature typical stereotypes and instead invokes an alternate reality / fantasy world. However, it's still pretty real, since this is actually also a part of Africa.

Meije Vivier - Cape Town

One of the stories I shot while in South Africa was with Meije. Meije is a new face at Cape Town's ICE Models and it was such a nice time shooting her together with Kristi (styling) and Emma (make-up/hair). Can't wait to go back to Cape Town! Click for full story.

Nastassja van der Merwe - featured in VICE Netherlands

My last trip to Cape Town was mainly for shooting lots of video, but when possible I'd sneak in a photoshoot. So I shot Nastassja van der Merwe for VICE Magazine Netherlands in a story set in Cape Town's Woodstock. The pink haired model brought some colour to the greyish day. For the full series, please click here (vice).

Isabel de Bruijn - Rainy Day, Dream Away

Meriam and I teamed up the other day to shoot beauty Isabel de Bruijn in a rainy, overcast Amsterdam (hey, what's new!?). Challenging Amsterdam's pittoresque beauty, we opted for omitting the obvious so it could seem to be set in any city. One of us shot digitally and the other analog, making for an interesting sequence. For the entire series click here. Thanks to Cristina Vila, Isabel, Cherish Brouwer, Adinda Anna and Korinna van Balkom.

Caroline Meijer, Amsterdam

L'Officiel NL asked a couple of Dutch photographers and artists to contribute to their 5 year anniversary issue and I was one of them. It was great to have the opportunity to photograph two features and I took the chance to shoot a lot of collateral as well, which the image above is a result of. For more click here.

Karoo, South Africa

There is something special about South Africa. I have been there now two times and I remember the first time I landed in Cape Town and explored the Cape Peninsula how mesmerised I was by its natural beauty. This time around I made my way up north to shoot Anja on location and I was smitten by the mountains and wilderness with which it teases you. This black and white out take was shot in the Karoo (botanical gardens) and I'd love to return someday soon.
